Northumbria’s Solar-Terrestrial Science group is working closely with the  on space weather forecasting. The UK Met Office is developing a system of forecasting all types of space weather. Northumbria is playing multiple roles in the £20M UKRI (SWIMMR) programme which will improve the UK’s expertise for monitoring and predicting space weather. Projects as part of this include:

  • N1 Satellite Radiation Risk Forecasts (Rae, Watt, Sandu)
  • N4 SWIMMR Activities in Ground Effects (Rae, Watt)
  • S4 Forecasting from the Sun to L1 (Bloomfield)
