ASPIRE STUDENTS WITH SCHOLARSHIPS

Approximately 40% of Northumbria’s students come from areas where participation in higher education has traditionally been low, and over 60% are from the North East, which has the lowest progression rate to higher education in the country.  We want to give everyone with the potential to go to university the opportunity to achieve their goal.

For students from low-income backgrounds, the biggest worry isn’t achieving the grades they need to secure a place at Northumbria, but how they’ll afford to study and make the most of their university experience.

Through our NU Aspire Programme, our donors are providing scholarships in everything from the built environment to graphic design, from sports coaching to financial services. We’ve supported care leavers and those estranged from their families, female students and people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, to not only access higher education but to succeed in fields in which they are typically under-represented.

Students use this support to help fund their tuition fees, living costs, field trips, specialist equipment, travel, childcare and experiential learning opportunities.

How can you help?

Through our NU Aspire Scholarship Programme, we aim to provide at least 40 new undergraduate scholarships each year, enabling talented students from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in higher education to study and succeed at Northumbria. £4,000 will support an undergraduate student for the duration of their 3-year programme.

We also provide scholarships to support postgraduate students:

  • £2,000 will support a postgraduate taught student for one year; and
  • £22,000 will support a postgraduate research student for one year, when match-funded by the University.

Get in touch if you would like to find out more about how you can support the NU Aspire Scholarship Programme.
